
The Eye Department was started on 24th November, 2008
EYE OPD: The Eye OPD is located on the first floor of the OPD block of NEIGRIHMS. It is well equipped with the following state of art instruments:-
- Snellen’s Visual Acuity Boxes (motorized)
- Autorefractometer
- Direct and Indirect Ophthalmoscopes (Heines)
- Slit lamps (Haag-Streit) with Imaging System in one of them
- Applanation tonometer (Haag-Streit) & Schiotz tonometer
- Automated Perimeter (Humphrey)
- B-scan (OTI Scan)
- Pachymeter (Sonomed)
- Gonioscope(Volk) 10. Lensometer
EYE O.T. The Eye OT is still under construction.
At present the department of Ophthalmology runs OPD six days a week from Monday to Saturday.Cross-references of all the departments from OPDs, Wards, Casualty, ICU, CCU and PICU are attended every day. Emergency services are provided round the clock every day.
As the Eye OT is under construction Dr. T. Natung, Assistant Professor, department of Ophthalmology, helped the Meghalaya Blindness Control Programme (MBCS) in operating cases of cataracts (by phacoemulsification), glaucoma, eyelid disorders and other anterior segment disorders etc. at Civil Hospital, Shillong.
MINOR Procedures: Minor procedures like foreign body removal, syringing of nasolacrimal duct, chalazion curettage, cyst removal, lid surgeries like lid laceration repair etc. were done routinely in the eye OPD.
Regular theory classes in Ophthalmology were taken for the 2nd and 3rdyear MBBS students. Clinical teachings for the 2nd year and 3rd MBBS students were started and the schedules were done as per the MCI requirement. Similarly, regular theory classes for the BSc Nursing students were taken and clinical teachings were done when they were posted in the department.
For the benefit of the residents, regular classes and case discussions were done in the department. Journal Reviews of various journals were done every month. The department took active participation in the interdepartmental CMEs conducted every Saturday.
