- Hematology
- Coagulation analyser
- Cytochemistry & Immunocytochemistry
- Testing for Hemoglobinopathies : by the Variant HPLC machine

- Histochemistry and immunohistochemistry (IHC)
- The department has facilities for more than 40 histochemical stains.
- The immunohistochemistry section has facilitated typing and diagnosis of undifferentiated tumours, lymphomas and small round cell tumours. Hormonal receptors for breast carcinomas guide therapeutic decisions.
- Selected cancer markers for purpose of research are also available
- 2.5% of all biopsies required IHC for a definitive diagnosis.
- Renal pathology: Renal biopsies are routinely processed since 2006. This is the first institute to establish such services in north-eastern region

Academic Activities and Training
- MD Pathology: Department of pathology NEIGRIHMS has an annual intake of 2 students.The department has developed the infrastructure including PG lab, Research Lab etc as per MCI regulations. The department is equipped with Binocular research microscopes, Trinocular research microscopes, Penta head & Deca-head teaching microscopes.
The postgraduate students are also sent for extramural posting in Autopsy pathology to PGIMER, Chandigarh for 1 month.
- MBBS: Classes (Modalities involved - Lecture, discussion, Journal Club, Case presentation, etc.) are conducted regularly involving Residents and Technical/Non-Technical staff.
- BSc Nursing: Classes on various topics (as selected after discussion with College of Nursing Authority, NEIGRIHMS) are taken for B.Sc Nursing Students throughout the academic session.
Vision of the Department
- To improve diagnostic services in Hemato-oncology by introducing FISH/CISH techniques and immunophenotyping by Flow cytometry and Karyotyping.
- To establish Neuropathology , Molecular Pathology and Cytogenetic services.
- To increase the number of Post-graduate seats as per the latest recommendations of MCI.
- To start BSc Medical Laboratory Technology course.
- To send the technical staff for extramural training in Electron microscopy, Neuropathology techniques, Tissue culture, In situ hybridization techniques and Molecular pathology techniques.
